OfflineJust want to say that I have done only full 3 weeks of the 3X program and the results are already showing up… today our pitching coach came up and told me that I topped out at 87 and sat at 85 mph in our most recent intersquad game. In my bullpen before my outing I was airing it out and if I think I might have been higher than 87. Either way, much better than 83-84 I was sitting at all last fall. I now have more respect from my coaches and as long as I don't regress again I should have a better role on the staff this year.
The 3X program works well, for sure (of course we all knew this). My velocity hasn't really increased much in the last year and a half, and now I've seen a jump in the last 3 weeks. Can't wait to keep up the program and seeing gains.

OfflineCongratulations, Cage. Keep it up and let us know when you hit the magic number (90) for the first time. I'm curious – does your pitching coach know about the 3X program you're working? What kind of mechanics does he teach – and has 3X changed any of his ideas?

Offlineactually, our pitching coach and our head coach sat down with Tom House over the summer and discussed pitching mechanics. My coaches are now very aware of hip shoulder separation and how important it is, and they have us drill it. (that's actually how I found topvelocity.net; I googled "hip-shoulder separation + pitching" after my coaches explained the concept to us at practice).
I think the med ball drills my pitching coach has us do are the right idea, but they focus more on scap loading rather than 3X of the drive leg to trigger hip-shoulder separation. I do Brent's drills at practice instead. We have a good anaerobic portion of our program that is similar to the one in the Ace Pitcher Handbook. Our weight lifting program isn't bad either, except we probably don't do quite enough olympic lifting.
My pitching coach doesn't know that I'm on the 3X program, but I think if he knew, it would probably make him realize that triple extension is really the key in generating core torque (although I think he knows on some level, because one time he said something about getting my back hip through and extending my drive leg more). I've got very good, intelligent coaches that are looking always looking for new and late ideas about baseball, so i'm sure they will find out about Brent's program someday. Maybe I will tell them about it if I end up get on that level of respect from them.
brent, will send in a video as soon as I get filmed again.

OfflineYea, you guys are surrounded by people who know about pitching ;D. Unlike me, many of the people I know don't play baseball, and pretty much no one here knows about 3X, so I decided to self coach myself and I have become quite knowledgeable. Also, all of you guys have been wonderful teachers and coaches for me, so whenever I need advice I always come here ;D. And back to the main topic, Cage, hopefully you will hit 90 and I also hope to see you in the major leagues one day :D. Of course if you are planning to become one, which I believe most pitchers here want to become ;D.
