Hi Brent-

Here are a few video clips of my son pitching.  He's 11 years old.  He throws hard for his age & size (low 60's MPH, under 4'10" tall/95 lbs), and had 49ks in 33 innings in travel baseball.  Just looking for some feedback on his overall mechanics (what he's doing well and what he can improve).  Thanks!

This clip is basically his typical mechanics but I noticed that his front foot slipped due to bad/loose traction on mound…here's Regular speed and Slo Mo

My son is pitching at the world series right now thanks to Brent's 3X pitching program.  more velocity and accuracy with zero pain…it's a win-win situation.  it's never too young are old to start the program.  i'm 44 years old and had a torn rotator cuff and even i recovered and pitch using Brent's methods.  dive in and enjoy the speed.

Thanks!  We just purchased/signed up for the program.   My son is looking forward to starting.  Medicine ball just got shipped too. :)

Singtall or Brent, are there any specific drills that typically produced the most improvement or proved to be more difficult for young players?   [Brent, do you ever make it to Atlanta?]

We have a couple of friends at the 12U USSSA Elite 32.

The best way to modify the program for 12U is use a basketball for the med throws in the 3X Velocity System if the 2lb med ball is too heavy. Also you can remove the heavy weight training. Do not remove the shoulder routine (Use a 1-2lb dumbbell), the med and core routines, and the anaerobic conditioning. I would recommend though that within the next year he start to learn the lifts in the total body training; like the cleans, jerks, squats, bench press and more.

A good rule of thumb is at his age focus more on educating him to become an elite athlete/pitcher than pushing him to be one.

I would love to make it to Atlanta. If I can get enough interests in the area, I will definitely make a trip. I do have my Velocity camps here in Louisiana if you are interested.

take the time to work the program and you will see several stages of development:

1) in kids i find that they first have to learn to balance with both feet pointing towards home; the drills will teach this.

2) next they have to get used to the torque of having the hips open while the shoulders are closed.  the drills cover this also.

it is at this point that many people stop and have problems with combining their old mechanics with the new, which will be somewhat successful because of the new found power.  but i encourage you to push through this stage and move on to what i feel is the "icing on the cake" stage.

3) learn to get your force vector aligned and push off at the right time.  my son successfully dominated in local park ball before getting to this place.  getting this down and landing with both feet pointed at the target added 10mph to his already decent speed.

4) relax that arm and let it go along for the ride.  it's hard to resist the throwing action that we all grew up with; but i assure you there is no more power or especially accuracy in pulling down with the arm in an attempt to get more speed.

i am a father and was an assistant coach for a 12U team this past season.  i taught the pitchers the principles i learned from the 3X course.  of course none of the kids were able to just do it overnight.  this is not a gimmick or quick fix.  but once i got them into a decent set of mechanics, i let them all throw relaxed while i used a radar gun on them.  all 6 pitchers threw 10 pitches.  once i told them their personal average and top out speed, i let them throw one with everything they had.  they all felt like they threw 10mph faster, but the radar proved that most of them actually lost 2-6mph and completely missed the strike zone.  the only two people that were able to actually throw a strike with full force was me and my son, and we have both been working the 3X program for quite a while.  i only gained 1mph and my son gained 2mph.  neither one of us would ever throw full force in a game situation because it really just makes us throw all arm and will quickly tire the arm.  there is plenty of power and accuracy on tap with the 3X program.  take the time and get it completely down.  you will see the rewards soon.

Quick update…  I usually have my son pitch at the end of the year and gun him, just to keep a record of his velocity at various ages (mostly so he can look back at his progress).  He's been working with the 3x program pretty regularly since late July/early August.

So, today I gunned him off the mound, and he was throwing 66 MPH–roughly 5-7 MPH fater than he was throwing 4 months ago (no recent growth spurt or anything).   He's always been a hard thrower, but, frankly, 66 MPH for an average sized 11 year old is more than I would have expected.

Afterward, he said he wasn't even throwing hard, but was just trying to use his legs/hips and trying to triple extend.

I'll have to video him again and post it soon, but just thought I'd drop you a note to follow up, and to thank you for your assistance!
