OfflineBrent,
Colton Haynes 3x day 5…..I have included clips of all basic drills and Ace pitcher drills (exception of sled and basic overhead into mat drills). Please look over and let us know what he needs to improve. At end of clip is a small clip of bp after drill workout. please watch at norm speed first time. Colton is describing what he is feeling – you may have insight as to what would help him transition. Every once and a while he will have one really zip…..but timing is way off and his arm action is much different trying to 3x. at the 5:46 timeline Colton let his arm dangle just behind his waist like Lincecum does to try and get it involved late. He thought it felt good and it appears to get involved late and had good action – your comment on this would be helpful. Getting 3x and heel up has been tough – but only day 5…Colton has toned down the shoulder tilt and lowered the vector profile from your last suggestion…
Thanks

OfflineI am going to start my analysis from the beginning of the video so follow me through the video.
- In your 3X before front foot strike drills you are not driving through a full stride and you need to try and hit 3X just before the front foot lands in a stride that is close to 100% of height.
- On your external rotation drills you are getting external rotation late. Your elbow is pushing out in front of your face. You want to work to keep your elbow behind your ear as long as possible even into internal rotation and pronation.
- On your med ball drills you really need a 2lb med ball the size of a volleyball. The ball you are using is to small. Your stride length again is way to short for your size. You need to hit full stride lengths of around 100% of your height if possible. Just going through the motions will not help you implement these power components.
- Pay attention to your landing leg force vector. You do not want to release the ball with your front leg force vector vertical. You have your front leg force vector vertical in most of these drills. This will not support hip to shoulder separation or external rotation. This creates lead knee flexion which will significantly reduce velocity.
- In your med ball separation drills you are not externally rotating after hip to shoulder separation. Once again you need to externally rotate the throwing arm with elbow behind your ear and even try to release there. What you are doing in the video is letting your arms go early which is reducing both hip to shoulder separation and external rotation.
- When you are performing your target throws chest up you want your arm to external rotate to 180 degrees if possible. You are pulling your shoulder back behind your back and killing your external rotation.
- Your front leg force vector continues to stay vertical through the entire video. I would work on this first. Increasing your stride is going to be the solution.
- On your drive drill do not let your drive leg foot close off during the drives. Focus on hip to shoulder separation every drive.
- During his pen when you guys are talking about the force vector and getting it lower. He does a good job of getting it more linear but the problem then becomes he is not stabilizing his front leg at front foot strike. He is flying over his front leg into release instead of stopping and driving it into extension before release.
- The arm going early is old motor coordination with the new stride speed. He needs to really focus on external rotation in his drills as I described. I will slow his video down for analysis soon.

OfflineEverything looks good except for you are not getting a full 3X and you have a lot of lead knee flexion. Here is the difference between you and Bauer in this component. It may help if you wear plastic spikes on that mound for better traction.

These are power issues. You are not as quick or explosive as Trevor. Also your landing leg is not as strong as Trevor either. You need to work on this through your strength and conditioning. I believe the power clean is the best way to fix these power issues. With the power clean, driving the weight up to your catch on your chest trains 3X and the catch trains triple flexion.
