Hi Zedoryu.

School is out for winter break after tomorrow, so I can't get a video from a team practice.  I leave for San Diego for the week but will be returning for Xmas.  I will see if I can't take a video of Daniel throwing from the outfield before the new year.

My initial reaction is that, since an outfielder already has momentum going into a throw, 3X probably isn't as necessary to get the hips around and achieve separation.  Bracing the stride leg to transfer forward momentum into the throw is a focus…

Here is an article I put together on velocity for position players and how 3X changes.

Great summary article, Brent.  Thanks.

Side note:

My observation is that Daniel (as an outfielder) appears to find that the high arm slot achieves the most power while staying over the ball enough to throw on a rope back to the infield.  Many infielders achieve a "high-cocked" throwing arm (or whatever hybrid a particular play may demand) in their throwing mechanics on routine plays to "stay over the ball" and throw with better accuracy.

I remember Daniel tried pitching with the same shoulder tilt and arm slot seen in his outfield throws at first.  Accuracy was a problem most of that period.  A converted infielder may throw more accurately but may lack a sense of 'urgent' momentum when starting out – infielders look to 'set and throw' when possible.

I'm not sure that Bauer has revealed why he does the crow-hop throw in his warm-up.  Obvious statement is that he is employing maximum momentum in a throw before he begins pitching from the rubber.
