Here is Evan a couple weeks after finishing 16 week Level I.  He is now working on Level II, and we are looking forward to the in-season program.

I will analyze the video soon. I would recommend the 3X Pre-Season before the 3X In-Season because he has all of the 3X Load drills which train the motor coordination around the lift to load components.

I would be curious to take a look at Evans mechanics just before he started the program – do you have anything…he is looking strong

It was farther back in the forum (end of July).  Here is the link…..

….the changes have been pretty substantial, but its a long process.  When I looked back over the previous analyses Brent did on Evan I can see slow gradual progress from month to month.  The new motor patterns, and the strength, can take a while to develop.

I plan to put together a full analysis soon but to give you something quick here is the biggest issue with the mechanics. His head is leading his hips. I talk about the issues this causes here in this article called A Major Pitching Velocity Headache. Also his lift leg is opening very early in his delivery which is forcing him to move into triple extension early. This means he is not getting his Force Vector linear enough so he is striding a little to vertical. Notice the diference between Evan and Trevor in this same position.

I am glad you have the 3X Pre-Season program because the Lateral drills with the 3X Load Series will help with these issues.

Brent:  thanks for the quick look.  I see what you're saying.  The problem with opening the lift leg early has been going on since the beginning, and I think its slowly starting to improve — although there is still a ways to go.  The issue of leading with the head is more recent;  I don't see it in previous analyses.  I think it may have started occurring as I kept preaching to start moving forward earlier in the delivery.

We just got the preseason program, and we'll start working on it.  Because it can be hard to fix two things at once, would you suggest trying to fix the lift leg or the head first?  Thanks,  JR

John -

The biggest improvement has been in his momentum and arm action…In early video his arm was really dragging….

But if he is opening up too early – then his arm will need to slow down from a timing issue…..My guess is staying closed

longer will solve the head problem.  My son had similar issue and staying closed longer also helps extension – but my son is

struggling with the lead leg opening up too soon as well….good luck

Thanks for the suggestions Rick.  These seem to be common problems with young players struggling to implement 3X mechanics.  JR
