Brent,

yes i agree.  Shoulder stretching and for that matter any "hard" stretching should only be done when the muscles are warmed up properly.  I always swim first, then put on deep heat on the targeted muscles and also wrap up in layers so I get a seat going.  On the video of me doing the shoulder stretches I actually on a recumbant bike while I am doing the stretches.

With regard Olympic lifts – unfortunately I can't do them any more.  it just hurts my back to much

I've been having some shoulder issues of my own and i think i have an impingement. i told my coach i think it might be that and now I'm icing and heating at least 3 times a day. i do 15 minutes of ice then take at least an hour off before the next treatment. its been feeling better but how long before i actually know its healed all the way? i just don't wanna go out and throw and have it back to the way it was or even injure myself more by tearing something.

I wouldn't advise using heat. I would just use the ice. Here is a good article on icing.

It sounds like you need to strengthen your cuff with a good joint integrity program and also learn better mechanics. Post your video up for analysis if possible.

Joe sorry for the delay but I have been slammed with paid and free video analysis. I should get yours before next week. I do paid analysis before free so free takes a little longer. I appreciate your patience.
