Roalds training certainly is demanding and those who are mentally and physical capable of executing such demanding work outs will no doubt get themselves into super great shape as he is.
His hand ball and raquet drills are great if they were to be properly executed in the pitching movement I would not teach pitchers to execute them as he does due to the fact that he stops body movement in an upright body position, has absolutely no front hip lead, no triple extension, drags his drive foot over onto the outer side of his shoe sole, all of his power and velocity is executed with just his arm, void of his body, he has no body movements which transfers his weight from the ground up throughout his body into and out through his arm and finger tips, one thing I will say is that his arm is in great condition due to the fact that he spends an enormous amount of time throwing very light racquet balls which are quite different in weight and allows himself ample rest time, his body movements defies most aspects of the pitching movement.
I use racquet balls, racquets, tennis balls, different size whiffle balls etc, but I do not stray away from the correct body movements in the process. practice sessions should correlate with game type situations.
