Brent,

I wanted to get your thoughts on the idea of weight shift, specifically shifting back over the rubber.  Let's say, from the stretch, do you like for the pitcher to tilt or lean back a bit before of at the start of the leg lift to get weight over the rubber in order to get as much mass as far back as possible.  I used to think this was correct and I would have my son do this.  However, I have noticed that his shoulders don't get level at landing and thus has a low throwing elbow at the high-cocked position.  I am thinking this weight shift may be the cause of this?

Thanks,

Stu

Stu, you do not want to shift your weight back at the leg lift. You want to close off your pivots (lift leg and shoulders) while you start immediately to lead with your front hip and drive your force vector towards the target. If you look at Trevor Bauer he does this really well.

His shoulders are dipping as a reaction to his front hip and force vector driving towards the target. This is very different than shifting your weight back. This hip drive is building explosive momentum. It sounds like your son had poor speed through his stride, so after front foot strike his shoulders where not level because he had very little forward momentum in his body.
