3X Velocity Program Implementation

Brent Pourciau

by Brent Pourciau · January 15, 2013

If you are a coach who has just started reading about 3X Pitching, bought the program, or studied the mechanics guide, your probably thinking wow… this is amazing!!!

3X Velocity Program ImplementationBut… You might also be thinking….
How the heck do I do it?
How do I implement this with my kids?
5 days a week??

Really???
Are you serious?!?

Well at least that’s what I thought when I first learned about the 3X Pitching system. I was amazed by this revolutionary approach, the science that backs it up, and inspired by possibility of truly helping kids that are willing to commit themselves to excellence, dream large, and work their tails off to reach their potential…. at the same time, I was a little overwhelmed. There is a lot of information to take in, learn, and implement. It took some time to understand the drills, mechanics, exercises and learn how to teach them. Read more

Pitches, Pitches, Pitches And More Pitches

Brent Pourciau

by Brent Pourciau · February 24, 2011

Pitches, Pitches, Pitches, and more PitchesThose who lack pitching velocity want to throw more pitches. The problem is this is a double edged sword. When your pitching velocity is poor, and you want to take the easy way out, you opt for ball movement. This involves trying, or successfully learning, offspeed pitches. Here is a list of these type of pitches.

Offspeed Pitches:

  • Curveball
  • Slurveball
  • Circle Change
  • Forkball
  • Knuckleball
  • Gyroball
  • The “Volken”

I am not saying that these pitches are junk or a waste of time, because many great pitchers have used them. What I am saying is this is always last resort. Especially when you are young. You should expect your pitching velocity to improve all the way into your 20′s. If you have plateaued, then you need a pitching velocity enhancement program like the 3X Pitching Velocity Program before you need to learn another pitch. Also learning these offspeed pitches have proven to decrease pitching velocity, because if not thrown correctly,  it can add more wear and tear to the arm and it also can change your pitching mechanics. I have seen in my career guys loss a few miles per hour because they fell in love with a Forkball, or a Curveball. I am not saying this is the case for everyone but it is the case for most young pitchers. Read more

Why Some Pitchers Throw Harder Than Others?

Brent Pourciau

by Brent Pourciau · October 31, 2010

Pitchers Throw Harder, Hard Throwing Pitchers, Why Some Pitchers Throw Harder Than OthersWhy Some Pitchers Throw Harder Than Others is a big question in baseball and it is a question that seems to continue to go unanswered. Determining why some pitchers throw harder than others was the basis for a study by the American Sports Medicine Institute, the School of Health & Sports Sciences Osaka University and the Department of Surgery Duke University. The study was called KINEMATIC DIFFERENCES BETWEEN HIGHLY-SKILLED AND LESS-SKILLED BASEBALL PITCHERS. This study took place in 1999.

I wanted to title this article, “Why Some Athletes Throw Harder than Others?” but conventional wisdom does not label pitchers as athletes yet so I didn’t want to confuse anyone. I hope I can help change this perspective of us Pitchers in the near future. Read more

3 Keys To Pitching Velocity

Brent Pourciau

by Brent Pourciau · October 24, 2010

Brian Wilson Pitching VelocityThe 3 Keys to Pitching Velocity fall outside of conventional wisdom. These 3 Keys to Pitching Velocity do not exist in the vocabulary of most high school and college pitching coaches. These 3 keys to Pitching Velocity are arguably the best FREE pitching advice you will find on the web.

Before I give you these keys you need to prepare your mind for success because these keys will change how you look at pitching and velocity. More than likely the knowledge you have of pitching velocity is not getting the job done and YES you can gain knowledge from a source like TopVelocity.net which will guide you to pitching velocity that you have dreamed of reaching. Obviously, I am proud of these 3 Keys to Pitching Velocity because I am gloating but I did have to pay a heavy price for this knowledge. I had to overcome a career ending rotator cuff tear before playing pro ball, along with over ten years of searching and searching for this knowledge and abusing my body through trial and error. These 3 Keys helped me to reach my velocity goals after several doctors told me I would never pitch again. So here goes! Read more

Pitching Velocity Quick Tip #2

Brent Pourciau

by Brent Pourciau · October 3, 2010

This is the second velocity quick tip of the velocity quick tip series.

This quick tip covers the “Tilt” and how it is a key component to pitchers like Tim Lincecum’s total body mechanics. This tip will help support good hip to shoulder separation. It uses gravity to build more core torque at front foot strike. It is important though that you maintain balance when implementing the “Tilt” into your delivery.

Here is the article I wrote on Tim Lincecum and the Tilt to learn more about the effects of this key component of velocity.

These tips all are covered in depth in the Ace Pitcher Handbook and the 3X Velocity Camp Instruction Videos. If you are looking for velocity drills to help you become more total body in your pitching mechanics then you must consider purchasing this information.

Band Separation Pitching Drill

Brent Pourciau

by Brent Pourciau · January 10, 2010

The main purpose of a Drill, is to practice a component of the delivery that will help to correct a mechanical flaw. I also believe it is important to add resistance to a drill to help imprint the new muscle memory.

The drill below should be performed 2 – 3 days a week, for at least 3 – 4 months. The drill should also be performed after completing the “Flexibility Training” portion of the Fusion System which can be found in the Ace Pitcher Handbook. You can also find more drills in the handbook. Try to push each drill to muscle fatigue, if possible. Read more

Pitching Velocity Supplements

Brent Pourciau

by Brent Pourciau · November 27, 2009

Pitching Velocity SupplementsIf you are looking to gain velocity in a pill form then view this link here. Otherwise the products listed below are supplements that will support any pitching velocity focused training program and help you gain pitching velocity in return.

The products listed below must be taken with a balanced diet. They MUST NOT be taken as a meal replacement. Any meal replacement supplement must be taken between your three main meals or with your meals, not as a replacement of those meals. Fast twitch muscle fibers equal pitching velocity and to develop more fast twitch muscle fibers you must take in more nutritional calories to support this development. These calories must consist of protein, complex carbohydrates and fatty acids; along with vitamins and minerals. Read more

The Pitching Key To Torque Is In The “Tilt”

Brent Pourciau

by Brent Pourciau · November 18, 2009

Tim Lincecum Tilt PitchingOne of the main reasons a pitcher the size of Tim Lincecum, can generate as much pitching velocity as a pitcher as tall as Randy Johnson, is because of core torque. The key to Tim Lincecum’s ability to create optimal torque is in his release point.

Tim has an “Over the top” release point and Randy has a “Sidearm” release point. I am not saying that every pitcher should throw the ball with a higher release point the shorter they are because there are benefits with all arm angles. What I am saying is a higher release point, using total body mechanics, will generate more core torque and in return increase pitching velocity if done correctly. Read more

The Proper Research On Why Extreme Long Toss Is Bad For Your Arm!

Brent Pourciau

by Brent Pourciau · July 18, 2009

Long Toss Bad for ArmAlan Jaeger is upset that TopVelocity.net has not done the proper research on long tossing. He said in an email to me, “If you are going to be in the public domain, I would urge you to do the proper research.” I am not sure if you have visited his website but I do not see him practicing what he preaches. There is a lot more research posted on TopVelocity.net than www.jaegersports.com but I will still give him what he has requested in his email, “Proper Research.” Read more

The Secrets Behind Throwing Hard

Brent Pourciau

by Brent Pourciau · July 10, 2009

Pitching Secrets of Hard ThrowersDr. James Andrews at ASMI put together a study of low velocity pitchers to high velocity pitchers to determine the difference in pitching mechanics. It was a good feeling after reading this study because the same information coming from Dr. Andrews is the same information Top Velocity has been coaching and training for years. It proves why I overcame a rotator cuff tear and was able to reach 94 mph on my fastball post surgery. Read more
