What causes a slump? How do you keep a hitting streak alive? When a baseball player is “in the zone,” how did he get there? How does he stay there? What causes a loss in velocity on the mound, or a lack of power at the plate? More importantly, how can answers to these questions lead to a better performance on the field? The Baseball Code hopes to answer these questions and more.
The Baseball Code takes a different, deeper look at the game. Every pitch, hit and play in the field leads to a win or a loss. The Baseball Code looks at those individual statistics to not only find trends that can help turn some of those losses into wins, but also dives into the science behind the throw, swing and catch to affect a change in the trend.
Numbers can tell us when a player is in a slump or on top of his game, but what makes up those numbers? The Baseball Code breaks down the statistics to find answers. The science of the human body and mechanics of baseball can uncover what makes the numbers happen. By examining a player’s mechanics, training, muscle build and approach to the game, hosts Brent Pourciau and Brian Haldane can help players minimize their weak points and maximize production.
Brent and Brian both share a passion for the game of baseball and continually seek an understanding of what makes it happen.
Brent Pourciau is the founder and owner of Guerilla Baseball and Top Velocity. You can learn more about him in the About us section.
Brian Haldane is a lifelong fan of the game and a former host of a sports talk radio show. He is a student of economics and statistics and a certified (if not certifiable) “roto-geek.” Brian understands that the numbers don’t stop with the box score. “In fact, that is often where the story begins” he explains. As a career broadcaster, Brian is able to take the statistics that a player produces, and tell the story of what that player is doing to everyone from the casual fan, to the student of the game, to an up and coming prospect.
When Brent and Brian get together for each episode of The Baseball Code, their goal is to deliver effective, educational information in an entertaining format. Topics on the show range from headlines and trends in Major League Baseball to viewer contributed questions. The guys address a different issue every week, diagnose the problem, then offer advise on strength training, conditioning, and mechanical tweaks to help players improve. Their approach stems from a belief that, at its core, baseball is fun. The goal is to bring that fun to each episode to make players better, and further entrench in viewers the same love of the game that they hold.
