It looks like Greg Maddux has good hip to shoulder separation in the picture but why did he only throw 85 to 87 mph?

kevin, why don’t you try breaking your hands down around your knees when you are loading and aligning your force vector, instead of breaking them at your belt? This might help your arms relax more.

like pedro and tim in these pictures:

Maddux came into the league over 90 but as he got close to 40 years old he started to slow down which is common with age.

Hi Kevin,

Here’s a a clip of your mechanics. I won’t presume to analyze it. But one thing I did notice was your arm action. I’ll put that in another post.

Kevin,

Here’s a clip of your arm action. It looks like you are pulling the ball up and back with your elbow. The ball, your palm, and forearm are pointed down and parallel to the ground as you get into the cocked position., At FF (when you are in the L cocked position) your arm appears to be too forward, rather than pulled back creating torque (scap loaded).  Maybe Brent and the coaches can weigh ib on that one.

Kevin,

As much as your elbow position at front foot strike is too high the elbow flexion is good. The more I study your delivery the more I am seeing that you are either not loading linear enough on the Force Vector before 3X or you are not building enough power through 3X because your taking to long to get to front foot strike and you are landing with your hips almost completely closed which is allowing your elbow to cock high almost in an inverted L as it tries to wait for the hips to open.

The problem is you are starting your stride early but you are opening your front side too early which is throwing your weight forward too early, limiting your ability to load the drive leg and power the hips open fast enough to create optimal hip to shoulder separation. The only pitcher I can think of who moves with the lower half like you is Brandon Morrow but look at his 3X. It is 2X-3X more explosive than yours.

Thanks for the help guys, I played catch yesterday and made the adjustment of keeping my arm down and back.  I will video some footage next time and post it to see what you guys think.
