I assume all of you know who Matt Harvey is, so my question is how does he throw 95-99mph without triple extension? I noticed he doesn’t 3x at all, maybe he gets it on after FFS I’m not sure. The guy is electric though.

im just wondering because in footage i have seen from him, he doesn’t get great layback, or a leg drive really. I do like how he moves down the mound fast though which is the only reason why i believe he throws hard, and the fact that hes a tank.

If you can find some footage of him throwing 95-99mph then I can see what he does differently than most 3X pitchers. What I see with him is a bit of a leg drive but not a complete 3X. He does get poor hip to shoulder separation and poor external rotation but I would bet this is what he looks like when he is high 80’s low 90’s. I would bet his mechanics at high 90’s is more impressive like Verlander but what you are dealing with is a beast of an athlete. How many 6’4 230lb guys do you run into everyday? I would highly advise not to learn from a pitcher who has average to poor mechanics with an elite genetic makeup unless you are built the same way.

Can’t find anything from the side thats current, only thing is from college and he does look different from his days at Chapel Hill. It wouldn’t shock me to see a video of him by the side before the All-star break.

Like I said, he drives the knee down into front foot with a little leg drive into front foot. Not full 3X. He does get decent hip to shoulder separation which is a little more than I thought with optimal external rotation. This is at 98mph,

This is another way to get to hip to shoulder separation but he is landing at front foot strike with his drive foot still on rubber which is a negative using this knee down approach.
