Walter Feeney’s Separation Throws, Stride Throws & Olympic Lifts | Page 3 | Pitcher Athletic Profiles | TopVelocity Baseball Forum
I was consistently higher today than I was Monday on my Separation throws I’m supposed to be getting more tired during the week but I guess it’s just because I’m getting better at the movements and I’m becoming more mobile. Anyways here are today’s videos, feedback is always nice.
Wasn’t able to do my full workout today. We got hit with a huge snow storm and the school was closed so when I went into the weight room I was doing my lifts and all I got kicked out by Janitors. I’m thinking tomorrow I’m going to do all of today’s lifts with tmrws to catch up. But anyways here is a little from the little I was able to do today.
Friday was hectic I had to Thursday’s workout because of the snowstorm. I did cleans and what not but I was actually able to get in a little bit during the storm on Thursday so I took video then and you can look at them in the post before this one. This Friday my throws were a little down kinda. I topped at 76 twice, I usually top at 77 and I was consistently 73 – 70 with throwing 76 2x. I felt tired that day though. Anyways here are my throws from Friday criticism is always great. Next week I will be starting the pre-season program and I will be posting different videos then and the throws will be somewhat new to me so I’m really going to need help on those. Also next wednesday according the program I think I’m throwing a small bullpen so it’ll be interesting so see where my velocity is at. So it’ll be nice to get some feedback there.
Today was my first day doing the lateral separation throws in the pre- season program. It was a little weird at first but once I figured out the faster you got you’re hips to open the easier it was to 3x and separate. So I feel like I was able to get it. My lateral throws I think were a little more consistent in the mid to high 30’s topping out at 37 and I got my drive throws to as high as 39 which was pretty cool. My power throws were pretty good I think I feel like I could separate better though I could only go as far 70 feet on these throws due to being inside it’s still freezing out here. I didn’t think to take a video of my assitance throws mainly because I was trying to figure it out with my buddy and I don’t think we were able to get it to work. So I ended up taking the belt off and I did a few separation throws.
Today I threw a bullpen i topped at 78. I know I must not be separation as much on the mound as I am in my drills because I’m throwing 77 mph on flat ground so I should definitely be throwing over 80. The mound was also moving forward when I hit front foot strike so that could’ve been a part of the problem because I’m loosing momentum I think it also looks like I’m loosing torsion in my knee. I’m still confident that I will through 84 this season though as I should be doing so. Also I’m posting a video of my back squat the other day I did one rep at 230lbs just to see how my form looked. I think it’s better my back isn’t as tight anymore I think. Clean pulls I think are alright too. Anyways really looking for some feedback on my pen today please and thank you.
here are my squat and clean pull vids. The back squat isn’t “heavy weight” because I’m in pre-season. But recently I went to Pennsylvania to visit my grandparents and went to state college there to work out. I didn’t do a max week after the 3 weeks of training I was able to get in before the season. So I maxed my power cleans while I was out there and I did 200lbs which is 10lbs more then what I used to be able to do. That’s only like 1.05 power to weight ratio for me but still it was cool to see some progress without even a full 8 week cycle. So I was pretty pumped about that. Ironically I can’t wait for the off-season again haha.
I’m in pre-season right now just trying to maintain the little power and velocity that I’ve gained in the off-season, that’s why the weight is so light right now. We started pitchers and catcher this week and we’ve been doing a bunch of silly jogging and sock drills. I’ve also had to throw two bullpens and I have to throw a third one on Saturday. Fortunately next week is tryouts and I will be able to take it easy then and I’ll be able to just do my program. The only thing that has benefited me from going to pitchers and catchers has been learning my position more. I wouldn’t go if I had the choice but the coaches pick you and make you go.
It’s so ironic that my coaches are more bringing me down more than helping me and making me better. I can’t tell them about what I’m doing because if I did their ego would get in the way and they would tell me I’m wrong.
