driving the hip | Talk Pitching | TopVelocity Baseball Forum

I know triple extension involves extending all 3 joints. My question is should you feel the ankle kick actually driving the hip through. It makes more sense to get separation to me rather than kind of jumping off the mound sideways because i feel if it is just a linear jump you tend to lose the back foot and not be able to drive the hip through and get as much separation. I just want to know if that sounds logical to you and if the pitcher should actually feel that ankle kick driving the hip forward or not.

Davis gave a good description here.
The key is understanding that a leg drive is not triple extension (3X) until the knee, ankle and hip flexor are all extended. The key now to getting the hip flexor to extend last is the timing of the feet which is best described as foot sync and then the power of the leg drive finishing in the ankle kick. It is an elite move to implement a complete 3X before or just at front foot strike. The key factors are the power of the drive and the ankle kick.
