How does Fernando Rodney throw so hard when he doesn’t have a leg lift? I’ve been watching him the world baseball classic and it’s so weird to me how he throws upper 90s with his delivery.

He’s like Mariano Rivera with his mechanics. He has a devastating change-up which varies 10-15 mph from his fastball. He does lack control though, which is why he doesn’t pitch much.

Because leg lifts are not necessary to generating pitching velocity. Lift for Show, Load for Doe is the 3X motto. Rodney has a perfect linear Force Vector and hits 3X before front foot strike and converts this into optimal hip to shoulder separation. His leg strength is just ridiculous. He does everything that you need to do, incredibly well, to throw upper 90’s.

Rodney is my favorite pitcher the dude is so strong look at those tree trunks he calls legs! He was very wild when he had the high leg kick. He took that away made things real simple and he now is one of the most dominating closers in the game.

Haha, watched the video Kevin posted, he’s a lot more powerful in this video. I watched the footage from 2008 with one pitch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..f_sWMFWLi0 But as Brent said, you don’t need a leg lift to generate velocity.
