Front foot landing | Talk Pitching | TopVelocity Baseball Forum

brent,
When should our front foot land? I want to say it is immediately after 3x. My reason for asking this is because sometimes I feel like I keep my front foot from landing and I just continue to throw it out there. It almost feels like when I land it is difficult to get everything going towards the plate to throw with any velocity. I am thinking that if I can powerfully extend my back leg and then land right away everything will catapult forward with more speed. I also feel like because my front leg continues to reach out my shoulders eventually just go with it and open up to soon and I cannot maintain separation. So again, I think if I extend and then get my foot down I will have that separation and speed going forward.
In a way I guess I am saying to shorten my stride, but without compromising the actions of the drive leg.

Yes, it is a balance of stride distance and stride speed. If you increase stride distance but loss stride speed in return then it works against you. In the short term it is fine to shorten the stride to not loss your stride speed but to reach your pitching velocity potential you must use as much stride distance as possible to generate as much stride speed as possible. This takes a ton of ground reaction forces through 3X before the front foot lands.
