Hip to shoulder separation!! | Talk Pitching | TopVelocity Baseball Forum

I was just on youtube and I came across the video. With a guy with a hip machine that helps teach hip to shoulder separation! http://www.swing-speed.com/pitching.php
Right there is the link to the website I don’t know if you have heard of it before, but from what I see this can truly be a tool to use in helping hip to shoulder separation.

Thanks for joining topvelocity!
I have talked about this device a few times on this site. This machine is training hip rotation in a vertical position which is not how the high velocity pitcher moves. They actually developed this device for golf. The high velocity pitcher moves into hip rotation with an abducted drive leg aka a full stride. Also what the studies show is that ground reaction forces, aligned in a linear direction through the drive leg, peak just before front foot strike, which is what creates explosive trunk rotation. This device does not train this.
High velocity does not come through one device. If it did then you would have a ton of Major League pitchers talking about how they sucked until they used this one device they found on the internet. High velocity pitchers are elite power athletes who have efficient high velocity mechanics. You need a program that trains all aspects of the high velocity pitcher and it does not come in one device, exercises, lift or throwing program.
i just watched the video, and i would say that the device was good to warm up/limber him up some….that’s about it. if you are flexible and able to separate the hips from the shoulders, you can pick up a few miles per hour….but it’s still not the same as 3X pitching.
my son (being really flexible) was able to separate hips from shoulders fairly easily last year. now that he is getting bigger and stronger, he is having to really use his drive leg more to get that same separation.
i would vote that contraption in the same category as yoga…but not as good.
