That is a stretch. The issue is more than likely that you are not using your legs to 3X and drive the weight up. You could be swinging your back. This makes a big difference in your power to weight ratio.

im doing everything right except not exploding my 3x and shrugging at the same time. i was shrugging after the 3x thinking the energy would come up through my upper body then shrugging but i realize now its more of a full body explosive movement. I think it was seriously killing my explosive power.

Joe have you watched the coach hatch video’s on this site? I have been lifting since I was 14 cleaning since 15. My power clean is 315 but after watching those video’s it became very apparent to me that I need to work form on my squat, and clean by getting the full range of motion. I can squat 475 like a power lifter, but if I try full range of motion I am more like 375. The proper range of motion in ur squat will increase your power, and promotes hip flexibility. Those video’s are a nice refresher of what Olympic lifts are and how to execute them properly.Good luck on your cleans.

The current trend in high level olympic lifting is to get away from extension of the ankle I believe. This illustrates a problem with equating a certain performance in a lift with a concurrent increase in another sporting skill. The clean is a tool to increase physical ability to throw harder. The form you use on the clean should maximize the carryover to your sport. This may or may not be the optimum form to increase your result in the clean.

Walt, you make a great point. Pitchers should Power Clean more to train power production through a more explosive full triple extension which will support this power production within this movement in their pitching delivery. An Olympian focus is as much on the ability to shoot under the weight and drive it up from the bottom of the front squat when working in the Olympic Clean.

If you are referring to the “stomp” or “Boston stomp” I do not believe you are correct. This is an olympic world record lift from 2012 with triple

extension. You’ll have to copy and paste the url to view.
