Power Cleans Increase Pitching Velocity

With the power of the internet and the advanced technology of today, we should not listen to anyone who just makes claims. We should expect hard evidence to back those claims. Olympic Lifting Increases Pitching Velocity

So why does this work? How did we do this? These are the basis of the hundreds of questions I am getting from the video above. Here are the answers, it works because it uses post-activation potentiation which means when you fire a ton of motor units with a lift or exercise then your body retains that history and will use it in the next movement, for example, the throw. It also works because it uses heavy loads which have been found to be more effective in training velocity than light loads:

Kaneko et al. (1) determined that training with heavier loads of 100% Maximum Voluntary Contraction (MVC) resulted in increases not only in strength but also in unloaded movement speed. Similarly, a training study by Schmidtbleicher and Buehrle (2) found that the use of relatively heavy loads of 80-90% MVC enhanced the performance of powerful dynamic movements more effectively than light loads.

For the second answer, we did this because we are not afraid of conventional wisdom. We are not afraid of the endless number of restrictions pitching and strength coaches put on mainly pitchers. We are not afraid to think out of the box and find what actually works because most programs, ex, and devices for baseball do not work.

I highly recommend that you share this video with a coach or player who does not believe Olympic lifting or heavy loads increases pitching velocity. The only way we are going to change the conventional wisdom of this game is if we can get the truth out. If you have no one to share this video with then just like the video so more people find it on YouTube so they can spread the word. The conventional wisdom is hard against this form of training and this is why we have so much injury in this game and those who spend their entire careers working their butts off to get better and never do.

I’ve watched your video and I have a couple of questions/comments. No one can power lift moments prior to getting on the mound as demonstrated here. Not all body types are the same and cannot be treated cookie cutter. Power lifting is a process that has to be learned and there is so much controversy around what’s good and not good for pitchers to do for training, it is confusing! For high schoolers, this isn’t realistic. They’re still growing and cleans can effect joint integrity. Why don’t the top velo trainers have a forum or roundtable discussion about what’s best and why in order to come to a consensus? The conflicting information is not helpful and you don’t know what theory to subscribe to.

hey ive been working on my pitching mechanics and i need some help on how to get a longer stride because i am only 5 foot 9 inches but i lift heavy and olympic style and i need help with how to deliver the trunk the right way and keep my shoulders back when i open my hips? Thanks James Ashowrth.

Thank you for answer me mr. Brent, my english is a little bit poor but i try to communicate you what i want, i have your program 1 year ago the 3x Pitching Velocity … It would not be much trouble that you can give me how many days per week i can do this exercise to improve the strong of my arm?

    If you have the program then look at the Ace Pitcher Handbook which is our first level of off-season velocity training. On page 31 it starts the Fusion System which has a calendar on 37 which starts week 1. It will give you the sets, reps and percentage of weight for training with the power clean and all of the other lifts and exercises which are critical for developing more pitching velocity.

    You need to learn how to use a periodization model to effectively make gains on an 8 week cycle. I would highly recommend that you get the 3X Pitching Velocity Program to use this model that has been proven to add 5-10 or more on your pitching velocity.
