Can Working Out Increase Pitching Velocity?
December 10, 2008
I have heard many players and coaches say that working out will not increase pitching velocity. I have even heard them say that it will hurt the pitcher. I understand that this is many parents, coaches and players converns because it seems to be conventional wisdom but I will be the first to tell you that if you just do your research you will learn otherwise. It will also prove to you that those who are spreading these rumors about working out and pitching have not done their research.
When someone tells me that working out is bad for pitching I then ask them then why is about 70% of Major League Ball Players on Steroids or Human Growth Hormone? It isn’t because they just want to look good on TV. I then ask them why was the majority of the ball players listed on the Michell Report pitchers? I always get a few stutters followed by silence.
This does make a good point so I wanted to back up this claims with the list of pitchers who are on the Mitchell Report. It definitly does make a big statement. These pitchers where suspended for using steroids or HGH.

Believe me this is a short list. Think of all the Pitchers who didn’t make the list who are on these performance enhancers. If you need a reference to this information here are the links to the Mitchell report and all Pitchers suspended after the report came out.

I mean honestly, how could someone truly believe that strength and conditioning will not improve your velocity or speed? This is the only reason athletes take performance enhancers like steroids and HGH. Those of us in pro sports who didn’t take them where definitely tempted. We all knew that if you took human growth hormone, Deca-Durabolin, Winstrol, Sustanon, and Anadrol separately or all together before a workout, without dying, after a few months you would be throwing a lot harder. Notice I said dying. Yes, we knew it was dangerous and that is why some of us didn’t take it. Also because the league wasn’t offering us “No Namers” millions of dollars to play better.
It is just absurd to say that strength and conditioning does not increase velocity. It is even more absurd to follow that with “Only pitching mechanics improvement can do that while using mental rehearsal prior to each pitch with the intention of moving the body faster.” If your body is growing stronger, will it not have more ability to move faster? If strength and conditioning didn’t increase pitching velocity, personally I would have never played ball again after my rotator cuff surgery.
I am in NO way promoting steroid or HGH use to increase velocity. I believe this to be more destructive than helpful in the long term. This is why I recommend the 3X Pitching Velocity Program. This is the same program I used to not only make it back to baseball after a career ending rotator cuff tear but also play pro ball and top out at 94mph.

I made my travel team but im not pitching much. How do I "wow" him?
A lot of hard work and using the Ace Pitcher Handbook!
I see you have my name on the list as far as the Mitchell Report. I did not take steroids!!!! I came back and pitched from 2008-2010 in professional baseball and was drug tested regularly and i passed every test with flying colors. The year i supposedly tested positive was the frost year of testing and there was kinks in the testing program that where later worked out. My last 3 years of professional baseball, i threw the hardest i had ever thrown in my career. I went from throwing 87-91 in the big leagues to throwing 91-97. It was not with this stupid program and i worked very hard hard and spent 6 hours a day in weight room.
It really upsets me to see my name on a website like this that claims that i took steroids and try to sell a ridiculous program. If you want to know what it takes to be a big league baseball player go to damianmossbaseball and email a major league baseball player and ask us what it takes to be a professional baseball player
Damian,
I took your name off of the list. There are tons of sites online which list the names on the Mitchel Report and they also list your name.
I am glad to here that you used weight training to increase your velocity without steroids. My program does the same. If you would like to speak to me about my program, which you know nothing about, I would be glad to tell you about it. I promise you that you will not call it ridiculous. Just because I didn't play Major League Ball doesn't mean I have no idea how to or the right to coach this position. I am a little shocked that you are not more professional than what you showed in your comment here. If you would like to talk more please call me at 985-377-9249 or post your comments here or where you just interested in insulting me and my coaching so you could steal my viewers?
Damian, quit acting like a baby.
"It really upsets me to see my name on a website like this that claims that I took steroids and try to sell a ridiculous program."
First off, your name is on tons of websites, and not for your stunning stats as a big leaguer. They all have you down as taking steroids, get over it. If you did not juice then you do not have to go around proving your innocence. You know if you are guilty or not. No one is going to go through the list on this website and notice your name in particular and remember it, or really even care.
Secondly, do you even know what the program is? For all that you know it could be the same program that you used. If your were hoping that people would go to your website after viewing the comment then you have some serious issues and should probably see a psychiatrist.
Damian, Perhaps you could expand on the statement you made:
"I don't take steroids, period. I bought supplements. … [I] made a mistake trusting the label." –Seattle Mariners minor leaguer Damian Moss, who "would not name the supplements or the manufacturer, saying he didn't want to get any companies in trouble" (Seattle Times, April 5, 2005)
