The term hip to shoulder separation means at the moment of front foot strike the hips are open to the target and the shoulers are closed. Studies show that high velocity pitchers have a larger margin of separation timing which is more time between when the hip speeds peak to when the shoulder speeds peak. In the 3X Pitching Velocity Program hip to shoulder separation is best defined in the 2 Phase Delivery. The two phases of the pitching delivery are the stride phase and the throwing phase. High velocity pitchers will better separate their phases than the low velocity pitchers.
The drills in the 3X Pitching Velocity Program that help enhance hip to shoulder separation or the separation of the phase is the 3X Bounce, 3X Sled Drills, Assistance 3X Drills, 2 Phase Delivery, Med Ball Separation Throws and Target Separation Throws. You will learn the 3X Bounce Drill in the video here but the other drills are defined in the 3X Pitching Velocity Program. I would highly recommend that you signup for the 3O Days to 5mph as well if you want to learn more before committing to the entire program.
You will learn in the episode here on the @TopVelocity #PitchingTips #BaseballTips Show more on hip to shoulder separation and how to improve it.
